What is microchanneling?
Microchanneling (perforator rejuvenation) is a non-invasive procedure designed to stimulate the natural production of collagen, elastin, and other proteins that help revitalize the skin. As a result, you can have thicker, tighter, and younger looking skin in as many as 3 to 5 treatments (depending on your skin’s condition).
What conditions can microchanneling help with?
Microchanneling is effective at:
- Reducing acne scars
- Skin tightening
- Reducing surgical scars
- Reducing stretch marks
- Reducing pigmentation
- Reducing skin inflammation and redness
- Preventing hair loss
- Reducing the size of skin pores
Procedure details
Throughout the procedure, a special device equipped with miniature needles is applied to create microscopic channels within the skin. The channels formed through microchanneling are notably smaller in comparison to those generated by microneedling.
While usually a facial treatment, microchanneling can be additionally used to treat additional body areas such as the neck, chest, or hands. Moreover, microchanneling can also be used to address hair loss (alopecia) as this treatment can nourish the scalp and spur the growth of new hair follicles.
Microchanneling establishes openings in the skin to enhance the absorption and penetration of skincare products. Because of the increased permeability, these products will be more effective in treating various skin concerns such as wrinkles, acne, and hyperpigmentation.
What is the difference between microchanneling and microneedling?
Microchanneling and microneedling are similar procedures. However, they are quite different in terms of device and technique that is used to achieve the desired result of higher collagen production and rejuvenated, more youthful-looking skin.
- A microneedling procedure utilizes a linear stamping technique that is applied to the treatment area
- A microneedling procedure utilizes a skin pen that is rolled across the treatment area
Moreover, because microchanneling is less abrasive than microneedling, the downtime is significantly less. Where microneedling downtime can be days, depending on the intensity of treatment, microchanneling downtime is roughly 1 to 2 hours.
